Issan 2016 released

Issan 2016 has been released at €46.80 per bottle ex-negociant, an 18.2% increase on the 2015 price of €39.60. It is being offered by UK merchants for £570 per case.

Jane Anson, who scored the wine 95 points, commented that this year’s vintage is “a lovely classic Margaux, sculpted with a core of fine tannins that promise excellent ageing.” Neal Martin agreed, awarding a score of 93-95 points, noting that “this is a beautiful D’Issan for long-term ageing, on a par with the 2015.”

This year’s vintage is entering the market at a price that bisects the level of the 2009 and 2010 vintages, leaving little value for the consumer.  The price of the 2015, which carries the same critic score, yet is available at a 35.7% discount, makes this year’s price even harder to support. Buyers looking for value might focus their attention on the 2012. Robert Parker upgraded this wine from 88 points to 95 in 2015, observing that he had initially “underrated this wine dramatically”.
