Clos Fourtet 2016 has been released at €82.80 per bottle ex-negociant, a 23.6% increase on the 2015 release price of €67. It is being offered by the international trade for £1,010 per case, up 41.2% in sterling terms on the 2015 release of £715 per 12×75.
Overall, critics have been positive in their reception of the wine. Neal Martin scored the wine 95-97 points and said, “there is a real elegance and persistence, fanning out wonderfully towards the finish”. Antonio Galloni was also full of praise, and said the wine was “explosive in all of its dimension” and awarded it 93-96 points.
Prices for Clos Fourtet are 92.2% correlated to Wine Advocate score. Based on today’s release of £1,010 per 12×75, Liv-ex’s ‘fair value’ methodology places the 2016 vintage just above the trend line. Buyers looking for value might consider the equally scored 2015, which is available at a 20.7% discount to the 2016.
The 2010 and 2012 also look attractive.
