Clinet 2016 released

Clinet 2016 has been released at €72 per bottle ex-negociant, a 20% increase on the 2015 price of €60. It is being offered by UK merchants for £864 per 12×75, up 38.5% in sterling terms on the 2015 release of £624 per case.

Neal Martin scored this year’s offering 96-98 points, commenting that it is “a magnificent Clinet, both cerebral and lip-smackingly delicious.” Jancis Robinson was not such a fan however, scoring the wine 16 points, she noted that the wine had an “awkward, stodgy finish” and “unripe phenolics”.

Prices for Clinet are closely correlated to critic scores (Wine Advocate). This year’s vintage is entering the market at a price 30.3% below that suggested by Liv-ex’s ‘fair value’ methodology, which should make it a tempting offer for fans of Clinet. Further support for this vintage’s value comes from the fact it is priced below lower scoring wines from quality years such as 2005, 2010 and even 2015.
