Beausejour Duffau 2016 has been released at €84 per bottle ex-negociant, a 16.7% increase on the 2015 price of €72. It is being offered by UK merchants for £1,026 per 12×75, up 36.8% in sterling terms on the 2015 release of £750 per case.
Critics have praised this year’s vintage. James Suckling awarded a score of 98-99, commenting that this offering has “a superb density and richness with bright and intense tannins that are buttressed with fresh acidity.” Neal Martin scored the wine 93-95, although he noted that “this is a step up from the 2015 last year and should rest at the top of my banded score once in bottle.”
Prices for Beausejour Duffau are closely correlated to critic scores (Wine Advocate). This year’s vintage is entering the market 2.6% above the price suggested by Liv-ex’s ‘fair value’ methodology and is now the most expensive available in the secondary market, bar 100-point vintages such as 1990, 2009 and 2010.
Buyers looking for value might consider the equally scored 2011, which carries several years in bottle and is available at a 48.3% discount to today’s release.
