Pavie 2016 released – surpasses the 2015

Pavie 2016

Pavie has been released at €294 per bottle ex-negociant, up 16.7% on the release price of the 2015 (€252). It has a recommended merchant offer price of £3,588. This is 33.9% higher than last year’s offer price of £2,680 in sterling terms.

A number of critics have been positive in their reviews of the wine. James Suckling awarded it 99-100, commenting: “Love the gorgeous finesse. Goes on for minutes. All about finesse…new profile.” Jane Anson (97) also hinted at a change in direction for Pavie, calling it, “One of the most thrilling surprises of the vintage … a far better balance than in the past”.

Neal Martin, who scored it 98-100, called it “a very impressive follow-up to the 2015 Pavie”, adding that the 2016 “may surpass it once in bottle”. (He awarded the 2015 96-98 points.)

The 2016 already surpasses it in price – significantly. At £3,588, the new release is higher than all other recent vintages currently available in the market. This includes the already proven 100-point 2005, 2009 and 2010, which might be comparably appealing to buyers seeking perfection.

This places it significantly above the ‘fair value’ trend line, as shown below. The 2011 and 2014, which both fall below the trend line, may also be of interest.
