Grand Puy Lacoste 2015 has been released at €48 per bottle ex-negociant, up 24.7% on the 2014 release price of €38.5. It is being offered by merchants at £500 per 12×75. This is 33.3% higher than the open price of the 2014 (£375).
As the chart above shows, there is a marked difference between the price of Grand Puy Lacoste from the “best” years versus “off” vintages. The “off” vintages fall between £290-370 while 2005, 2009 and 2010 command between £560-720 per case.
The opening price of the 2015 pitches it among the best vintages. A set of strong reviews from critics seems to nod towards this. James Suckling (94-95) called it “very fine and elegant” while Neal Martin (94-96) concludes: “You could describe the 2015 as being between 2009 and 2010…and that, folks, is not a bad place to be.”
Liv-ex members appear to agree, voting it top “value” wine of the vintage – for the sixth year in a row.
Those not tempted to buy in barrel might look towards the 2009 and 2010, available at just £50-60 premiums on the new release. Buyers might also find value in the 2006. Priced 28% below the 2015, it possesses a strong score from an “off” year.
