Cos d’Estournel 2015 has been released at €120 per bottle ex-negociant: up 42% on 2014 (€84.5). It is being offered for £1,272 per 12×75 – an increase of 54% on the 2014.
While Liv-ex members agreed that 2015 was weaker in the northern Medoc, James Suckling praised “what great selection did” for Cos d’Estournel 2015. He scored the wine 97-98, calling it a “Big surprise. Really excellent.” Other critics were less effusive: Jean-Marc Quarin scored it 94, and Neal Martin 92-94. The latter complimented the “very pure bouquet” but noted that “it does not quite deliver the complexity of a top-tier Cos d’Estournel”.
Those looking for a “top-tier” Cos might note that the 2005 has a Market Price of £1,295 and a score of 97 from Robert Parker. Buyers seeking a Cos with a similar score to the new release may also find the 2012 compelling: with 93+ from Parker, it is priced 38% below the 2015.
Cos d’Estournel Blanc 2015 has also been released at €84 per bottle, up 68% on the 2014’s release of €50.
