Carmes Haut Brion 2015 has been released at €44.4 per bottle ex-negociant, up 37% on the 2014 release price of €32.4. It is expected to be offered by the trade at £480 per 12×75, 52.4% higher than the 2014 opening price (£315).
A number of critics commented on the curious character of the wine. Neal Martin (92-94) called it an “intriguing Pessac-Léognan”, and likened it to Pomerol – “Lafleur perhaps?”. He called it “difficult to judge” and looks forward to retasting in bottle. James Suckling (96-97) described it as “very unique”, while Jancis Robinson (16/20) noted: “Not obviously a Graves. Too heavy.”
At £480, almost all of the recent back vintages are available for less. However, with the brand on the move – and 40% less being offered on the market – perhaps buyers will be equally intrigued.
