Leoville Poyferre 2015 began the day’s releases at €55.2 p/b ex-negociant, up 24.0% on the 2014 (€44.5). It is being offered in the UK at £570 per 12×75, up 33% on the 2014 release of £430.
For Neal Martin, it was a “bullish and forthright” wine. He anticipated the 2015 to “land at the top of my banded score [of 92-94], possibly higher” and other critics seemed to agree: James Molesworth of Wine Spectator awarded it 92-95, and James Suckling 95-96.
Leoville Poyferre 2015 is more expensive than the majority of its ten older siblings, with exceptions being the 2005, 2009 and 2010. For those who see the new wine as having a similar level of quality, it offers a significant discount: the 93-point (RP) 2005 is 32% more expensive at £750. However, other high scoring vintages – such as the 94-point (RP) 2008 and 2011 – are available for over 20% less, and may look more appealing.
