After two slow weeks for the region, Bordeaux’s trade share increased to levels seen in January – but activity was not boosted by the First Growths which accounted for just 12.5% by value. Instead, Montrose 2005 and Cheval Blanc 2006 were traded in large quantities.
Trade for the ‘others’ category reached a high 11.3% boosted by activity for 97+ point Screaming Eagle 2013, which Robert Parker has compared to the 100-point 2010 vintage. He calls it “another terrific example of this iconic estate”. Mouton Rothschild 2003 was the only First Growth to appear in the tables this week.
Pape Clement 2012 – the cheapest of Parker’s top five reds from Bordeaux 2012 – found the bid this week. Its price soared after the critic upgraded it in April 2015 from 92-95 in barrel to 97 in bottle. It has continued to make gains, last trading for £550 per 12×75. This is 37.5% higher than its trade price of £400 before the report was released.
Jancis Robinson also offered a positive review of the wine after a blind tasting at Southwold this January. She called it “exceptionally appetising and interesting with lots of tannin and fruit for the future”, and scored it 17.5/20.
