Cos d’Estournel leads “Magical 20” trade

By November 30, 2011Fine Wine Market

Parker's recent "Magical 20" tasting in Hong Kong has brightened trade in the 2009 vintage this month. The Winefuture tasting featured 20 2009s that the critic deemed to be "of first growth quality".  Following his enthusiastic response to the wines, the vintage's monthly share of Bordeaux turnover has risen to 11 per cent, making it the second most traded vintage on Liv-ex in November.

Cos d'Estournel – evidently one of Parker's favourites – has led the Magical 20 charge. The wine has accounted for almost a third of '09 trade this month, ahead of Pontet Canet at 15 per cent and Pichon Lalande at 12 per cent.

The chart below shows Cos d'Estournel 2009's recent trading history. As you can see, prices have risen more than eleven per cent in the three weeks since the tasting.
