Liv-ex indices welcome the 2008s

By July 11, 2011Fine Wine Market

The start of July saw the addition of the 2008 vintage to the main Liv-ex indices.

In the Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 Index it was the 1986s (Cos d'Estournel, Lafite, Leoville Las Cases, Margaux, Mouton and Pichon Lalande) that made way, with the 2008s from Lafite, Haut Brion, Petrus, Latour and Pontet Canet replacing them.

Ausone 1999 and 2002 were also removed due to lack of liquidity, with Mission Haut Brion 2006, Yquem 2007 and Las Cases 2002 the other newcomers.

Thirteen 2008s joined the Liv-ex Fine Wine Investables Index – the "big eight", plus Pontet Canet, Montrose, Pichon Baron, Pavie and Ducru Beaucaillou – taking the total number of components up to 224.

Over in the Liv-ex Fine Wine 50, the 1998 First Growths made way for the incoming 2008s.

The Liv-ex Claret Chip Index also rolled forward a vintage, with four of the 2008 Firsts (Haut Brion misses out) joining the index.

Despite finishing June in bouyant fashion, the indices have shown sluggish progress so far in July. Both the Fine Wine 50 and the Claret Chip (below) showed small declines, with the latter down 0.6% in the week to the 8th of July.
