Liv-ex Claret Chip Index edges up from April lows

By May 10, 2011Fine Wine Market

After closing in the red for four consecutive weeks, the Liv-ex Claret Chip Index rose 2.04 points on Friday (0.46 per cent) to finish the week at 444.69. Despite the slight recovery, however, First-Growth prices continue to lack direction.

The week’s most notable wine on the up was Lafite 1995, which posted an increase of eight per cent. The vintage started May on a strong note, having traded at a £9,070 per 12x75cl case on the 3rd (up from £8,300 in mid-April). Elsewhere, price movement was more subdued.

The chart below shows the individual paths of the index's constituent brands over the last 12 months. Haut Brion continues to outperform the rest of the First Growths, whilst Mouton and Latour both outstripped Lafite in the first quarter.
