The Liv-ex Lafite Index, which measures the performance of Lafite and Carruades vintages from 2000 to 2006, edged downwards last month for the first time since early last year. The index is down 1.8% month-on-month, a slightly larger fall than we saw for the main Liv-ex indices.
Of course, one month's data (particularly from mid summer) should be treated with caution and it is far too early to state that Lafite's incredible bull run is drawing to a close. It is interesting to note, however, that this fall was entirely down to the grand vin. Whilst Lafite Rothschild itself was down 3.1% for the month, deuxieme vin Carruades de Lafite actually saw a 3.3% rise in prices, taking its year-on-year increase to 83.9%.
