Bordeaux 2007: Asian favourites

Though Bordeaux 2007 as a whole has not yet benefitted from the bull market of recent months, it appears that there is more to the 07 story than drifting prices. In 2007, it seems, it’s all about the brand, and particularly those brands that are popular in Asia. With the vintage now available physically, wines favoured by consumers in the Far East (particularly Hong Kong and China) have seen some rapid price rises in the last six months.

The most dramatic 2007 climber is undoubtedly Forts de Latour (RP 90), which has risen in price by 92% since early March, trading at £1,200 per 12x75cl case at the end of July (up from £625). Following Forts we have the Lafite stable, which is currently being led by  Duhart Milon 2007 (RP 90). Duhart is trading at £590 per case, up 51% since early March –  ahead of Carruades de Lafite (39% up over the same period) and then Lafite Rothschld itself (38%). Beychevelle is also on the rise (RP 87-90) having recently traded at £340 per case, up 17% on March.
