  • Château Talbot 2023 has been released at £462 per 12×75. 
  • Neal Martin scored the wine a barrel range of 91-93 points and called it ‘overtly classic in style’.

As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Talbot 2023 has been released at €36 per bottle ex-négociant, down 25% on the 2022 release (€48). 

It is being offered by the international trade for £ 462 per 12×75, down 20.1% on the 2022’s opening price (£578 per 12×75). 

Based on today’s release, buyers searching for value may turn to the 2019 vintage.

Critical response 

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded the wine a barrel range of 91-93, stating that ‘this is a very promising Talbot’. And that ‘[he] may actually prefer it to the previous vintage’.  

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) praised the ‘terrific depth and intensity’ of the wine scoring it a range of 93-95.  

Jane Anson (Inside Bordeaux) gave the wine 94 points, saying ‘this is a brilliantly juicy but understated Talbot.’ 

William Kelley (The Wine Advocate) describes the ‘aromas of dark berries, baking chocolate, plums, espresso roast and crushed mint’, scoring the wine 92-94 points.  

Château Talbot 2023 pricing analysis 

While today’s release price comes in at a discount to last year’s, buyers looking for value may find more attractive opportunities in back-vintages.  

Neal Martin awarded his highest score of Talbot of the last decade to the 2019 vintage.  Benefitting from three years in bottle and from a proven vintage, the wine is currently available at a 9.1% discount to today’s release and may be of interest to buyers.
